The Full Story
About
I studied advertising in my Media Communications degree, but the more I learnt about it, the less I liked it. I was also taking some film studies papers at university and one day my tutor asked me what I was planning to do when I graduated. I told him that I was planning to go into advertising and he said, "It is too bad that all of our talented, creative people end up making ads". What he said stuck with me and I went on to work in the film industry instead.

A new perspective
I spent three years in Auckland working as a camera assistant on films and TV shows including; Go Girls, Spartacus, Power Rangers, Harry, and The Weight of Elephants. In 2014 I moved back to North Canterbury, held a photography exhibition, began working at a small local gift shop, and started a charity that lead to me appreciating advertising and marketing from a new perspective.
Advertising and self promotion is good when it is about letting people know how you can help them. It is good to promote yourself when you have something of value to offer. I noticed that a lot of small businesses that I was having great interactions with in person were representing themselves badly online, I wanted to help.
Plan of action
A simple, optimised online presence can help you get work, sell products, and reach your community. The demand for what you are offering is already there, we just need to connect you with those that want it. You need to be searchable. You need to be clear about what you are offering and where you are located. You need to show that you are good at what you do and that you are still doing it. You need to be easy to contact. Together we can do this.
